When people first meet me, it's common for them not to like me. I've kind of grown to accept this as a recurring theme in my life. To this day, the love of my life still laughs because he recalled to a mutual friend, "You know I hated that girl, the first time we met. I've been bullied enough in my lifetime to know I am a bit different, but through time, I've also learned to accept myself for it, more than that embrace it. I remember my mother reading this quote to me when I was little. Or maybe it was the simple fact that those words spoke so much truth to me, even as I was young— be yourself, all the time. The moments that define who we truly are, are created when no one is watching. When our heart pushes us to do something simply because it calls to be done. That is someone who leads when no one is watching. When your soul aches to be seen and your voice to be heard, you have become passionate — even though no one is watching. When you reach for a level of excellence that makes your heart smile, you have become disciplined — even though no one is watching. So many people seem to think that dreams, visions, grand plans, inventions and creative bursts are reserved for writers, inventors, composers and artists. That such heights are not attainable for ordinary people with ordinary vocations, ordinary families, and ordinary relationships. But I disagree with that kind of thinking. I believe we can all be extraordinary in our ordinary lives.
